- The Maternal Child Health Program helps pregnant women and parents achieve their goals for their children and themselves.
The Program will provide:
- home visits to pregnant women and families with young children
- support for families with young children to help them get the services they need
Home Visits
Home visits provide information to pregnant women and families with young children and shows them how to get support from other community resources.
At a home visit, a community health nurse or family visitor will meet with you in your own home. During these visits you will learn about:
- pregnancy and childbirth
- preparing for childbirth outside of your community
- getting ready to bring your baby home
- supports available in your community
- taking care of yourself during pregnancy, and after your baby is born
- what to expect as your baby grows and develops
- how to keep your baby and young child safe
- feeding your baby, including breastfeeding, using formula, when to start solid foods
Support to Access Services
Some pregnant women and families with young children need more help to get the services they need.
If you need this type of help, a staff in the program can tell you about the services available and how to get them. They will work with you to:
- assess your need for services
- develop a service plan with you
- make sure you get the services you need
- set up appointments
